Tottenham Hotspur have put the feelers out for Sam Johnstone, according to a report from The Athletic.
They state that Spurs initiated contact for England’s three goalkeepers from the last international break; Manchester United’s Dean Henderson, Burnley’s Nick Pope and West Brom stopper Johnstone.
That represents Tottenham making their first move for a new goalkeeper, but whether or not any of those keepers will be available remains to be seen.
The report does add that Johnstone is ‘determined’ to still be a Premier League goalkeeper next season, with West Brom edging towards relegation.
At 28, Johnstone doesn’t want to go back down to playing in the Championship, especially having turned in such a superb campaign for the Baggies.
Johnstone has made the most saves in the Premier League this season with 120, and whilst that doesn’t always indicate a goalkeeper’s quality, he has equipped himself admirably.

Johnstone doesn’t think West Brom will price him out of a move this summer and seemingly believes he will be allowed to move on, which is great news for Spurs.
West Ham United are described as a ‘possibility’ for Johnstone this summer, but it’s Tottenham who look the most likely to strike as things stand, with Jose Mourinho seeking real competition for Hugo Lloris.
Glenn Hoddle has already backed Johnstone for big things having called him ‘outstanding’ in February, and it looks like Spurs agree with their former boss.
