According to The Sun, Tottenham Hotspur have made a first approach to sign Wigan Athletic duo Joe Gelhardt and Jensen Weir.
It’s claimed that Spurs have asked about the possibility of signing the pair, who both featured against Spurs in the FA Youth Cup back in January.
Wigan announced the club is entering administration just days ago, with players potentially set to leave the club in cut-price deals.
Tottenham scouts allegedly rate Gelhardt highly, and even think he could be developed into the next Harry Kane – huge praise indeed.
Everton want him too, but Tottenham are now hoping to swoop in. The 18-year-old has notched three goals in 19 first-team games this season, featuring mostly as a striker but also with the ability to move out wide.
Gelhardt was born in Liverpool, which may make a move to Everton a little more appealing, but Tottenham seem to have sneaked in by making first contact.

Midfielder Weir, 18, is the son of ex-Scotland star David Weir. He has made just one first-team appearance this season, but Spurs – as well as Brighton and Hove Albion – appear to have spotted his potential.
Spurs seemingly see both players as real talents for the future, and with Wigan struggling financially, can sense a bargain – but they will surely face major competition for both.
