According to Il Messaggero, Tottenham Hotspur have made contact with the agent of Roma midfielder Amadou Diawara.
It’s claimed that Diawara could be heading to the Premier League, with his agent Daniele Piraino unhappy at Diawara’s lack of playing time.
Tottenham have allegedly spoken to Piraino to discuss a potential move, but they face a battle – and it’s from the other side of North London.
Arsenal have made a call for Diawara too, and are prepared to swap Lucas Torreira for the Guinean ace before Monday’s transfer deadline.
Arsenal and Spurs are seemingly the favourites for Diawara, but which would would be more likely, and who ultimately needs him more?
The 23-year-old primarily plays as a holding midfielder, showing close control and progressive passing whilst he can also protect his back four.
That’s what Arsenal are looking for, and Diawara makes perfect sense as a budget option if they can’t lure Atletico Madrid star Thomas Partey to the Emirates Stadium.
Tottenham brought in Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg over the summer, so their need for a defensive midfielder isn’t quite as great as Arsenal’s, meaning we would be surprise if Spurs pushed hard to sign Diawara – even if he is a talented player.
