Ajax dou Matthijs de Ligt and David Neres look set to move on.
According to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, Ajax duo Matthijs de Ligt and David Neres have both demanded to leave the club this summer amid links to Tottenham Hotspur.
Ajax lost out to PSV Eindhoven in the race for the Eredivisie title this season, meaning they haven’t claimed top spot in the Netherlands since 2014, and they could lose players as a result.
A year on from losing Davinson Sanchez and Davy Klaassen to Tottenham Hotspur and Everton respectively, Ajax now face losing two more top talents, according to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf.
It’s claimed that defender Matthijs de Ligt and winger David Neres have both asked to leave, with goalkeeper Andre Onana making similar noises after a frustrating season.
De Ligt, 18, is arguably Europe’s top young centre back, and his impressive displays over the last 18 months – as well as his five caps for the Netherlands already – have sparked major interest.
Not only are Barcelona and Manchester City touted, but Football.London recently suggested that he could move on to Tottenham in a £50million move as they line up a potential Toby Alderweireld replacement.
Spurs may also be interested in the Neres claims, given that Goal reported in February that Tottenham were preparing their summer move for the Brazilian despite landing Lucas Moura in January.
21-year-old Neres has impressed this season with 14 goals and 11 assists in the Eredivisie, and could be an exciting signing for Spurs – but whether they truly need him is another matter.
