Mario Gotze celebrates goal for Germany
According to German newspaper Bild, Tottenham Hotspur have held two rounds of talks with Jurgen Gotze, the father of Bayern Munich ace Mario Gotze.
Spurs are looking to add considerable attacking firepower this summer, as Harry Kane not only needs support up top, but competition for the likes of Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli in attacking midfield would be wise too.
Reports from Bild on Friday evening suggested that Tottenham had joined the race to land Bayern Munich star Gotze in what would be a shock deal given his standing in European football.
The attacking midfielder, 24, had established himself as one of the top playmakers on the continent after 31 goals in 116 games for Borussia Dortmund, before his controversial move to rivals Bayern Munich in 2013.
Gotze’s 30 goals in his first two seasons at the Allianz Arena showed just what he is capable of, but he started just 11 Bundesliga games under Pep Guardiola last season, leaving his future in Bavaria in some doubt.
Now, Bild have offered an update on the situation, claiming that Tottenham are so keen to land Gotze that they have held two rounds of talks with his father, Jurgen.
Jurgen Gotze is currently serving as his son’s manager, and it’s claimed that he spoke with Tottenham representatives twice during Euro 2016 in order to hear proposals from Mauricio Pochettino’s men.
With Gotze’s contract expiring next summer, he may have a decision to make – and whilst splashing out for a top star seems against Daniel Levy’s approach, the Spurs chairman could sanction a huge deal to keep Tottenham in contention for the Premier League title and help them challenge in Europe.
