Tottenham Hotspur do want to sign Harry Maguire but there are concerns about the Manchester United defender’s wages.

Harry Maguire should be available from Manchester United but his wages could scupper a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

That is according to The London Evening Standard, who claim that Tottenham are considering an approach for Maguire.

The 30-year-old defender is expected to leave United this summer with both club and player accepting a departure may be best.

Premier League clubs are bound to be keen and Tottenham are showing a real interest in deal.

Harry Kane is understood to be a huge fan of Maguire – and has even recommended him to Spurs in the past – whilst Tottenham want to add homegrown players.

Add in that Tottenham are making a centre back signing an absolute priority this summer and Maguire seems to fit the bill.

However, it’s highlighted that Maguire’s wages are causing some concern inside Tottenham.

Maguire earns around £190,000-a-week at Manchester United and Tottenham are a little resultant to offer that kind of deal.

New boss Ange Postecoglou also prefers to work with younger players so a move to sign Maguire is somewhat up in the air right now.

Tottenham certainly need defensive help this summer.

Davinson Sanchez and Japhet Tanganga could be sold whilst Clement Lenglet is heading back to Barcelona.

Postecoglou needs options and maybe Tottenham should focus on a natural left-footer.

Maguire has played on the left side for club and country but is still naturally right-footed.

Tottenham have been linked with top-level left-footers like Josko Gvardiol and Alessandro Bastoni in recent times.

Lenglet felt like a stop-gap until a big signing was made in that area and Tottenham should still go down that route.

Maybe Tottenham pounce for an Aymeric Laporte or Pau Torres; maybe it’s a homegrown player like Max Kilman or a young talent like Lyon’s Castello Lukeba.

Left-footed centre backs have become highly valued in the modern game and it may be time for Tottenham to find one rather than commit to big wages for Maguire.
