Tottenham Hotspur have an advantage in the race to sign Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, according to the Telegraph.

Tottenham are said to be ‘closely monitoring’ the situation with Hojbjerg, as Southampton have failed to agree a contract extension.

Ajax have now joined the race for the central midfielder, which complicates matters for Spurs.

But Hojbjerg reportedly would rather play in the Premier League again than move abroad, which boosts Tottenham’s chances of landing him.

Ajax are said to be willing to offer £15 million for the Danish international, but Spurs still appear to be leading the race for his signature, due to the player’s desire to stay in England.

If Hojbjerg was brought to Tottenham he would add depth to their midfield department, and Jose Mourinho would hope that he could provide more protection to their defence.

Tottenham have continued to struggle at the back since the Portuguese boss’s arrival, and tightening up defensively will surely be top of his list of priorities for next term.
