Tottenham Hotspur, Everton and West Ham United are all interested in signing Mario Lemina this summer, according to reports.
It has been a turbulent first year on the south coast for Lemina following his £18.1 million move from Juventus – fee reported by BBC Sport. On his day, the Gabon international can look like one of the classiest midfielders in the Premier League, but his form has dipped significantly at times.
In the end, the Saints managed to ensure that they will be playing in the top flight again next year as their victory over Swansea on the penultimate day of the season essentially relegated the Swans barring the most ridiculous of final day scorelines. A 1-0 defeat to Manchester City was more than enough to keep Mark Hughes’ men up.
But Lemina may have perhaps already played his final game for the club, with Foot Mercato reporting that Spurs, Everton and West Ham are all monitoring his situation ahead of the summer. Arsenal are also involved in the race, according to the report.
Mauricio Pochettino certainly needs to be prepared to bolster his holding midfield options during the summer, with the Daily Mail recently reporting that Mousa Dembele and Victor Wanyama could both be sold by Tottenham during the upcoming window.
It would be a huge ask for the 24-year-old to step into the squad if he is replacing either of the two men who have been stalwarts during their respective Spurs careers. He appears to have the potential to be a real star – Juventus signing him on loan and then on a permanent basis surely proves that – and Pochettino may be hoping, if he can see off competition from the Toffees and the Irons, that he can be the man to turn Lemina into the kind of player that leaves Spurs fans feeling content should they decide to let Dembele go.
