Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly confident of fending of Manchester United’s interest in Eric Dier.

According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham are confident that Eric Dier will stay at the club despite Manchester United’s hopes of sealing a £40million swoop this summer.

Dier, 23, joined Spurs from Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon back in the summer of 2014, and whilst he was touted as one for the future, he has become a key part of Mauricio Pochettino’s side at White Hart Lane.

After playing at right back and centre back in his first season with Spurs, Dier evolved into a strong defensive midfielder last season, and his versatility has been key to Pochettino’s systems.

With over 125 first-team appearances for Spurs, Dier has been a real bargain for Spurs, and the 17-cap England international is now attracting interest ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window.

The Mirror reported on Tuesday that Manchester United are ready to test Tottenham’s resolve with a £40million bid for Dier, but the Daily Mail today claim that Spurs aren’t too concerned about the rumours.

It’s stated that Tottenham don’t believe Dier will have his head turned by United’s interest, despite the likelihood that he could vastly improve on his £50,000-a-week wages should he move to Old Trafford.

Spurs face a challenge holding on to many of their key players this summer, but they are confident that Dier will want to stay at White Hart Lane rather than move to join Jose Mourinho’s Red Devils.

Dier only signed a new contract with Spurs in September 2016, and whilst that gives Tottenham a certain level of protection in the transfer market, chairman Daniel Levy won’t want Dier to push for a summer move as Spurs look to keep their impressive young team together.
