Tottenham Hotspur haven’t given up hope of keeping Christian Eriksen.
According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur are desperate to keep playmaker Christian Eriksen, and are ready to offer him £200,000-a-week – but fear it won’t be enough.
Spurs managed to bring in two midfielders over the summer, as Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso arrived from Lyon and Real Betis respectively.
However, much of the focus remains on playmaker Eriksen, who many expected to leave the club before the start of the new Premier League season having suggested he’s ready for a new challenge.
The Dane started Saturday’s win over Aston Villa on the bench, but came on to show how important he still is, providing a cutting edge and creativity that Spurs had lacked.
It’s now claimed that Spurs are ‘desperate’ to keep Eriksen at the club, and are ready to throw a £200,000-a-week contract at the 27-year-old in an attempt to convince him to stay.
That’s more than double Eriksen’s current £80,000-a-week earnings, but Spurs fear the money won’t be enough, as Eriksen won’t base his decision just on money.
Eriksen has spent six years with Spurs having signed from Ajax in 2013, and having lost the Champions League final in June and failed to win a trophy with Tottenham, it’s understandable that he may look for something else given that he’s in his prime.
However, Spurs are really moving forward under Mauricio Pochettino, as seen with the deals for Ndombele and Lo Celso, and with potential destinations narrowing, staying with Spurs may not be the worst idea in the world.
