Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly decided against a move for Manchester City’s Jadon Sancho.

According to ESPN, Tottenham Hotspur have decided not to pursue a deal for Manchester City’s Jadon Sancho – despite his desire to join Spurs after a contract wrangle with City.

Tottenham finally made their first two signings of the summer transfer window on Wednesday, as goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga and Davinson Sanchez ended Mauricio Pochettino’s long wait for a new arrival.

Ahead of Thursday’s transfer deadline, Tottenham could still pursue further signings, with manager Pochettino almost certainly set to continue his policy of signing young players with huge potential.

One player who fits that bill is Manchester City winger Jadon Sancho, but ESPN report that Tottenham won’t be pursuing a deal for the teenager before the transfer deadline, despite Sancho himself wanting the move.

Sancho, 17, has been embroiled in a contract stand-off with City for most of the summer, as he has turned down offers to stay at the Etihad Stadium, because he doesn’t feel he has a path to the first team under Pep Guardiola.

It’s claimed that Sancho decided on a move to Tottenham over joining North London rivals Arsenal, but Spurs are now backing away from a move over the complicated nature of getting him away from the Etihad Stadium.

Spurs can sign Sancho now for a compensation fee, getting him out of his deal at City immediately – but he wouldn’t be able to be registered either before his scholarship deal with City ends next summer, or before City give him permission to play.

With City desperate to keep hold of Sancho, it seems that Tottenham believe they won’t sanction his departure, and Pochettino’s men will allegedly back away from the pursuit, for now at least.

Sancho joined City from Watford back in 2015, and he has emerged as one of the top wonderkids in England, but his club future remains up in the air as Tottenham consider moving on to other targets, boosting City’s hopes of finally striking a deal to keep Sancho this summer.
