According to The Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur are looking at a deal for Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie this month.

The Ecuadorian is seen as one of the rising stars in European football right now, and it’s fair to say that he fits exactly what Spurs need right now.

Indeed, left-sided centre-back is a problem position for Spurs at the minute, and as a left-footer, the 21-year-old would fill that void perfectly.

Hincapie is certainly a defender who can tick the boxes of what’s needed from a Conte centre-back.

He’s quick, he is aggressive and he’s very technical.

In fact, Hincapie is so comfortable on the ball that he’s compared himself to Neymar in the past when reminiscing on his days of playing as an attacker as a youngster.

Of course, you don’t necessarily want your centre-back to be playing like Neymar, pulling of tricks and flicks all of the time, but a good first-touch and strong technical ability is vital for any Conte centre-half.

So, will Hincapie be the January addition needed to shore up this Tottenham defence? Well, not quite.

Unfortunately, if this deal does come off Spurs fans will have to wait until the summer to see their new man in action as The Mirror report that Spurs’ plan is to loan Hincapie back to Leverkusen if they close a deal this month.

The benefit of a January deal though would be that Spurs can jump the queue in terms of the parties interested in this player. This report adds that both Inter and Napoli are keen on signing the South American, but they will be waiting unti the summer to make a move, that is, of course, unless Spurs can close a deal in the coming weeks.
