Italian Walter Sabatini could be in line for a move to Tottenham.

According to Sky Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio, Italian Walter Sabatini could be in line to join Tottenham Hotspur as their new sporting director.

Sabatini, 61, became Roma’s director of football in the summer of 2011, and gained quite the reputation for himself having signed a number of key players for the Italian club.

The likes of Erik Lamela, Miralem Pjanic, Marquinhos, Mehdi Benatia, Kevin Strootman, Gervinho, Radja Nainggolan, Kostas Manolas, Mohamed Salah, Stephan El Shaarawy and Edin Dzeko all joined the club during Sabatini’s time in charge of transfers, making Roma a force in Italian football again.

However, Sabatini chose to leave Roma in October 2016, resigning from his position after more than five years in the job.

Sabatini has been out of work ever since leaving the Stadio Olimpico, but he could be returning to football with Tottenham Hotspur, as Sky Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio suggests that a deal could be on the cards.

Tottenham haven’t had a sporting director since Franco Baldini left the club in 2015, but with recruitment chief Paul Mitchell serving a notice period, Spurs may want a new transfer guru to join the club.

Sabatini may be in line for the job, and after Baldini invested in overpriced flops like Vlad Chiriches, Paulinho and Roberto Soldado, Spurs fans would hope that Sabatini would have more success than his fellow Italian.

In fact, Sabatini recently told Football Italia that selling winger Lamela to Tottenham in 2013 ‘killed him’, and the duo could now reunite at White Hart Lane in the near future, with the Argentinian finally settling in at Spurs after a difficult start to life following his move from Roma.
