Report: Spurs consider Wilfried Zaha bid after Everton join race

Everton’s interest in Wilfried Zaha has reportedly prompted Tottenham Hotspur to consider stepping up their pursuit.

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Tottenham had been considering alternative options to Wilfried Zaha after being told that he will cost £70 million this summer, but may now make a low bid for the forward after Everton joined the race for his signature.

Zaha appears to have been linked with Spurs for a number of years now. The forward enjoyed a superb season last year, playing a vital role in dragging Crystal Palace away from the relegation zone after their dreadful start to the campaign, and that has attracted plenty of attention this summer.

The Mail reports that Tottenham were told last week that Zaha is going to cost £70 million. And while that seems to have initially put Daniel Levy off a potential move, it appears that Spurs may experience a change of heart due to Everton.

The Mail suggests that the Toffees also now have their eye on the 25-year-old, and their interest may now prompt Spurs to make an offer below the £70 million asking price to test the Eagles’ resolve to keep hold of their talisman.

It would certainly be a huge shock if Spurs decided to go anywhere near Zaha’s full asking price. As impressive as he was last season, his career record does not exactly jump off the paper – he is yet to reach double figures for goals in a single campaign.

And with the Guardian reporting last summer that Zaha had just signed a new five-year deal at Selhurst Park, it appears that Palace are in a strong position to dig their heels in and demand that his reported admirers pay the full asking price if they hope to get a deal done this summer.
