Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly moving closer to signing Serge Aurier.
According to The Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur are confident of sealing a £20million deal to sign Paris Saint-Germain right back Serge Aurier amid strong competition from other European clubs.
Spurs are still yet to make a new signing this summer, but having sold star right back Kyle Walker to Manchester City in a big-money deal, they do have some money to spend – particularly on a right back to replace Walker.
Kyle Walker-Peters showed some promise against Newcastle United on Sunday but remains inexperienced, whilst Kieran Trippier’s injury means that Mauricio Pochettino may want a more experienced right back to come in before the transfer deadline.
Earlier this week, L’Equipe reported that Paris Saint-Germain’s Serge Aurier has agreed terms over a move to Tottenham, but also had agreements with European giants Inter Milan and Juventus.
Now, despite huge competition from major clubs, The Mirror report that Tottenham are now confident that they will win the race to sign Aurier before this month’s transfer deadline.
However, it’s noted that Aurier currently isn’t allowed in the UK due to a suspended two-year sentence for assaulting a police officer in France back in 2016, and whilst the right back has appealed, it’s unclear whether he will be permitted to make a move to the Premier League this summer.
If Tottenham can somehow pull off a deal for Aurier, then they would be adding a player who can replace Walker’s pace and attacking ability, though some fans may be concerned about his attitude.
Aurier himself needs to move on this summer, having now become PSG’s third-choice right back behind Thomas Meunier and new signing Dani Alves, and the Ivorian international appears to be in demand having not only shown his quality with PSG, but also with Toulouse before his 2014 move to French capital.
