Mauricio Pochettino is said to be a fan of the Manchester City defender, but would surely surprise if he sold one of last season’s impressive performers.

A peculair report has emerged suggesting Tottenham Hotspur are hoping to sign Manchester City defender Eliaquim Mangala before the transfer deadline, before subsequently selling Kevin Wimmer (ESPN).
Drawing on Spurs sources, ESPN claim Pochettino is a big fan of Mangala despite his struggles following his move from Porto in 2014, and will push for either a loan or permanent deal, which will then see the club listen to offers for Wimmer.
Tottenham’s Kevin Wimmer reacts
The report manages to include not just one, but two hugely far fetched pieces of news relating to the club’s summer transfer business.
For one, it would be a big surprise were a direct rival of City look to Mangala to improve their squad seeing the difficulties the Frenchman has had in his time at the Etihad.
If Spurs are eager to get stronger in the Premier League, and make a good impression in their return to the Champions League, it is hugely questionable that the City centre back will help them achieve that, at least in relation to his most recent performances.

If anything, the suggestion that the North Londoners are open to selling Austrian international Wimmer is an even greater surprise, after the 23-year-old shone last season when Jan Vertonghen was out injured.
Wimmer signed a new five-year contract just last month, seemingly underlining both his importance in the squad and his willingness to be a dependable centre back option who can be rotated into the side.
What is unusual is that the former Cologne star is, like Mangala, yet to feature this season, with Cameron Carter-Vickers taking the centre back spot on the bench despite Mauricio Pochettino failing to mention any injury to the Austrian.
But what do you Spurs fans think, would Pochettino be crazy to think Mangala is an upgrade on Wimmer? Is the story fileable in the ‘out there’ section of the cabinet?
