Tottenham Hotspur have offered £10million for Pape Cheikh Diop – but fear they will be priced out of a move for Anthony Martial.
According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur’s bid for Celta Vigo talent Pape Cheikh Diop stands at £10million – but they fear that they will be priced out of a move for Manchester United forward Anthony Martial.
Spurs head into today’s Premier League season opener against Newcastle United as the only team in the top flight yet to make a new signing this summer, leaving fans somewhat frustrated with the lack of additions.
However, having sold Kyle Walker to Manchester City in a big-money deal last month, Spurs could finally land some new signings before this month’s transfer deadline, with more money at Mauricio Pochettino’s disposal.
Now, the Daily Mail report that Tottenham have made a concrete bid to sign Celta Vigo midfielder Pape Cheikh Diop, with the offer on the table believed to be worth £10million.
Diop, 20, joined Celta back in 2013, and made 22 La Liga appearances last season as he has broken into the line-up with the Galician outfit, with his box-to-box style seemingly attracting Tottenham’s interest.
Born in Senegal but a Spanish youth international, Diop could be lined up as a future heir to Mousa Dembele in the Spurs midfield, and Tottenham will hope that £10million is enough to seal the deal for Diop imminently.
However, the report also adds that whilst Pochettino is keen to land Manchester United forward Anthony Martial, he fears that the Red Devils will price Spurs out of a deal despite his limited role under Jose Mourinho.
The 21-year-old is immensely talented but has yet to hit his stride since Mourinho’s arrival as United boss, and even though he struggled to make a real impact for United last season, the Red Devils won’t want to strengthen a direct rival, meaning Spurs may well find him to be too expensive right now.
