Some at Real Madrid believe reported Leeds United target Lucas Vazquez should be allowed to leave the Santiago Bernabau after talks over a new contract hit a standstill, as reported by AS.
One of the most underrated players in European football may have finally established himself as a hugely important cog in Zinedine Zidane’s star-flecked squad but it seems not everyone in Madrid appreciates what he brings to the team.
Vazquez is due to become a free agent at the end of the season.
And while Zidane would surely love to keep a player who has started each of the past 20 games, it seems Vazquez is no closer to putting pen to paper on a new deal.
AS backs up claims from Diario Madridista, stating the Spain international is not convinced by the offer on the table.
Vazquez currently earns £3 million a year (£50,000 a week) and has been offered a three-year extension on the same money. He obviously feels the time is right for a pay rise after playing such a key role in Madrid’s La Liga title-winning campaign last term.
According to AS, some at the Bernabau feel the 13-time European Champions would be better served moving Vazquez out and relacing him with a younger model.
In Takefusa Kubo, Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo, some of the most exciting young talents in the world are contracted to Real Madrid – although none of the trio are as versatile as a man who has gone from a useful winger to a rampaging right-back in recent months.
According to the Daily Mail, Leeds are watching developments closely.
