Real Madrid are hoping to beat Arsenal to the signing of Hungary hero Dominik Szoboszlai and see him as a replacement for the Everton linked Isco, according to AS.

It may be a little premature to suggest that the days of the Mighty Magyars are returning. But, in this 20-year-old midfield dynamo, Hungary suddenly have a player befitting a nation that took European football by storm in their 1950s heyday.

Szoboszlai has developed a reputation for long-range wondergoals at Red Bull Salzburg.

With just seconds of normal time remaining during Hungary’s Euro 2020 play-off against Iceland, the Budapest-born sensation drove through midfield and fired a typically pinpoint 25-yard shot into the bottom corner.

A national legend at the age of 20; not a bad start to your professional career.

However, it remains to be seen if Szoboszlai will still be playing his club football in Austria when Hungary kick off their European Championship campaign in June.

AS reports that Real Madrid have joined Arsenal and co in the race for a player Mikel Arteta has identified as the man to give his stodgy side a dash of much-needed creativity in the final third.

With a £23 million release clause in his contract, it is only a matter of time before Szoboszlai is following in the footsteps of former Salzburg stars Erling Haaland, Sadio Mane and Takumi Minamino.

There is good news here for Everton too.

AS adds that Real Madrid see Szoboszlai, a player on the rise, as a replacement for a man whose star is fading fast at the Bernabeu.

An out-of-sorts Isco has started just 18 La Liga games since the start of last season and the Mirror reports that he would jump at the chance to reunite with Carlo Ancelotti and James Rodriguez at Everton.

Real are willing to sell for a bargain £18 million.
