Rangers could lose out to La Liga or Serie A clubs in their pursuit of the Amiens midfielder Bongani Zungu, after doubts emerged over his proposed move to Ibrox, according to The Scotsman.
There were claims on social media earlier on Tuesday that Zungu’s Rangers switch had collapsed.
But the newspaper insists that talks remain ongoing between Steven Gerrard’s side and the South Africa international – although it does stress there is ‘still some work to be done’.
It is claimed that a transfer fee of around £3.6 million has already been agreed, along with the length of Zungu’s contract – three-years with the option of a fourth.
But it is said that personal terms have yet to be finalised, with teams in the Spanish and Italian top-flights potentially ready to pounce on the situation.
Rangers completed a multi-million deal for the Anderlecht striker Kemar Roofe on Tuesday and have been linked with the Cedric Itten of St Gallen, increasing talk of an Ibrox departure for Alfredo Morelos.

Any transfer for Morelos is likely to generate much of the funding required by Rangers to bring the likes of Zungu and Itten to Glasgow, on top of Roofe.
