The Leeds United goalkeeper has been linked with a return to his homeland.
According to a report from Gianluca Di Marzio, Leeds United goalkeeper Marco Silvestri is attracting interest from newly promoted Serie A side SPAL.
The 26-year-old has one year remaining on his Leeds contract, but having struggled for game time this season it would be no surprise if he moved on, especially after Rob Green signed a one-year contract extension at Elland Road.
Silvestri has featured 98 times since arriving in Yorkshire, keeping 23 clean sheets in the process. However he only managed six cup appearances this time round, failing to play for a single minute in Leeds’ ill-fated Championship promotion push.
SPAL have already benefited from signing one former Leeds player, with Mirco Antenucci in outstanding form this season to help fire his side back to the Italian top flight, so what chance Silvestri joining him?
According to Di Marzio, SPAL intend to keep loanee Alex Meret for another season. It is being claimed the Italian club see Silvestri as a possible back-up option but would he really consider swapping one bench for another?
Whatever his future holds it is surely away from Elland Road, with Bailey Peacock-Farrell coming through the ranks and Green proving he still has it as Leeds finished seventh last time out.
