According to The Scottish Sun, Southampton’s Ross Wilson has held talks with Rangers over becoming their new Director of Football – and he’s now the favourite for the job.
Rangers recruitment chief Frank McParland left the club last weekend along with manager Mark Warburton and assistant manager David Weir, leaving Rangers to pursue a new structural model.
Managing Director Stewart Robertson told the Rangers official website earlier this week that the club wanted to bring in a Director of Football to predominantly oversee signings, leaving the new manager to focus on coaching.
With questionable signings such as Philippe Senderos, Joey Barton and Joe Garner, Rangers need to start focusing on strong transfer business as they look to close the gap on league leaders Celtic.
A Premier League club who seemingly always get their transfer activity right is Southampton, and one of their key men could be set for a move to Rangers, with The Scottish Sun reporting that Ross Wilson has held talks with the Gers above a move to Ibrox.
Wilson, formerly of Falkirk, currently works as Southampton’s Director of Scouting, having made a 2015 move from Huddersfield Town, and plays a vital role in Southampton’s transfer department.

Now, the 34-year-old could be set for a move back to his native Scotland, having allegedly held talks with Rangers in London last week over becoming their new Director of Football.
It’s stated that whilst Watford’s Luke Dowling and Huddersfield’s Stuart Webber are both on Rangers’ wish list as well, Wilson is now the favourite for the job after impressing during talks with the Gers in what could be a smart move given Southampton’s recent transfer business.
