According to The Athletic this morning, Southampton will not sell Ryan Bertrand, amid reported interest from Arsenal.

The London Evening Standard reported last week that Arsenal are interested in signing Bertrand from Premier League rivals Southampton in the January transfer window.

The Gunners are reportedly looking to bring in a back-up to first-choice left-back Kieran Tierney, and have identified former Chelsea defender Bertrand as a possible target.

However, according to The Athletic, there has not been any official approach for the 31-year-old, who is out of contact at the Saints at the end of the season.

Southampton do not want to sell the England international left-back and are in talks with him over a new deal, according to the report.

Disappointment for Arsenal

With Southampton doing well in the Premier League, it makes sense for them not to sell one of their best players in the middle of the season.

Arsenal could get Bertrand on a free transfer in the summer of 2021, but for now, they will be disappointed in their reported quest to bring the Englishman to the Emirates Stadium in the January transfer window and will have to look elsewhere.
