According to The Scottish Sun, Southampton want to sign Celtic ace Ryan Christie in a cut-price deal this summer.

The Bhoys are set to appoint Ange Postecoglou as their new manager according to BBC Sport, having missed out on Eddie Howe.

Postecoglou no doubt knows the scale of the task facing him, but losing an important player would be an early blow.

It’s claimed that Southampton intend to watch Christie at the European Championships as they consider firming up their interest.

The Daily Mail reported (25/04) that Christie’s contract actually expires in January 2022, not in the summer of 2022.

That means Christie could sign a pre-contract agreement with another club this summer or simply move in a cut-price deal.

The attacking midfielder often frustrates fans by shooting from all angles and distances, but he still managed to record seven goals and 15 assists this past season.

Southampton have history of raiding Celtic, landing the likes of Fraser Forster, Virgil van Dijk, Victor Wanyama and Stuart Armstrong in the past, so a move for Christie could make some sense.

Postecoglou would no doubt hate to lose a key player so early into his reign, but losing them for a fraction of their true worth? That would be really hard to swallow.
