Southampton are reportedly interested in signing the Nigerian this month.

Changchun Yatai's Nigerian striker Odion Ighalo (L) talks to referee during the Chinese Super League match against Shanghai SIPG in Shanghai on March 4, 2017.

According to Turkish media outlet Fanatik, Southampton are interested in signing Changchun Yatai hitman Odion Ighalo this month, but they will face competition from Turkish outfit Fenerbahce.

Saints boss Ralph Hasenhüttl will be desperate to bolster his attacking ranks at St Mary’s this month, especially with Manolo Gabbiadini facing an uncertain future on the south coast.

Southampton are by far from safe from relegation trouble.

They currently sit in 17th spot in the Premier League table, and face a tough trip to Chelsea tonight.

Southampton’s tally of just 21 Premier League goals scored this season will be a real concern for Hasenhüttl, and the Austrian will be desperate to add more firepower to his ranks this month.

Fanatik claims that could come in the shape of former Watford man Ighalo.

The 29-year-old has experience of playing in the Premier League, having scored 40 goals in 100 appearances for the Hornets, and he would be a really useful addition for the Saints.

Whether Southampton can beat Fenerbahce in the race for his signature, however, remains to be seen.
