Glasgow Rangers may face a fight to keep James Tavernier at Ibrox this month.

According to a report from the Daily Express, Rangers may have to fight off interest from Southampton if they want to keep James Tavernier to Ibrox this month, with the Premier League side keen on landing the Gers skipper.
The Saints are looking for a replacement for Cedric Soares, who the club have confirmed has joined Inter Milan on loan with an option to buy in the summer. And Tavernier appears on their list of targets.
The Express reports that Rangers are already looking to fend off interest from Brighton in the right-back, but will now have to also keep Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men at bay if they hope to hold onto Tavernier beyond this coming week’s deadline.

It would be a surprise if Rangers sold Tavernier this month. Steven Gerrard does have other options in that position, but Tavernier is arguably playing the best football of his Ibrox spell right now and replacing him is going to be an incredibly difficult task.
Yan Valery has looked impressive since breaking into Southampton’s side. But the Saints appear to lack depth following Cedric’s exit, so perhaps Hasenhuttl feels that signing another full-back is a priority for the final days of the window.
Unfortunately for Southampton however, it does not appear that luring Tavernier away from Ibrox is going to be an easy task by any means.
