Southampton reportedly want to take Barcelona starlet Jean-Clair Todibo on loan for the coming season.

According to a report from the Sunday People (4/8; page 48), Southampton are interested in signing Barcelona youngster Jean-Clair Todibo on loan this summer as Ralph Hasenhuttl looks for a late addition to his defence.

The Saints have enjoyed a fairly quiet summer, with Moussa Djenepo and Che Adams proving to be their only first-team signings. There is a lot of optimism surrounding St Mary’s right now, but there are still a couple of areas causing concern.

Centre-back has been a problematic position for the Saints, particularly since Virgil van Dijk left. But with the Daily Echo recently reporting that Hasenhuttl needed to sell players before he could buy again, the fans may have feared that the window could close without a new face being brought in.

However, it appears that the Saints may have found a way around the problem. The Sunday People (4/8; page 48) reports that Southampton are keen to land Todibo with Barca willing to loan the 19-year-old out for the coming campaign.

The report adds that the Catalan side rate the Frenchman extremely highly and feel that he would benefit from a season away from the Nou Camp as he continues to perfect his game.

Working under Hasenhuttl on the south coast could arguably be a fantastic option for the former Toulouse man. The Austrian has already shown during his time at St Mary’s that he is improving the players within his squad, so there is every chance that Todibo would return to Barcelona a better player if the Saints managed to get a loan deal agreed.
