Southampton could lose Cedric Soares to Inter Milan but will Danish full-back Maehle replace him at the Premier League outfit?
Southampton are expected to wait until the summer before making a move for the KRC Genk defender Joakim Maehle, according to the Daily Echo.
The Saints are set to bid farewell to Portuguese international right-back Cedric Soares this month with the BBC reporting that he is on the verge of a loan move to Inter Milan. And claims from The Mail last week stated that Maehle had been lined-up as Cedric’s replacement.
A Denmark U21 international, the attack-minded Maehle has enjoyed a superb season in Belgium, helping Genk to the top of the Jupiler League table while producing seven assists in all competitions.
The Mail reported that Southampton had entered talks about a deal to sign the 21-year-old – but updates provided by the Daily Echo claim that a deal will be put aside until the summer.
It is understood that manager Ralph Hasenhuttl is happy with the options at his disposal currently, having been impressed with youngsters Yan Valery and Kayne Ramsay since taking over from Mark Hughes at St Mary’s.
Valery has been attacking and aggressive, albeit maybe too aggressive as he was sent off against Leicester recently, while Ramsay (below) impressed with his positional sense and composure against Manchester City.
