According to the Daily Mail, Rangers will find out in the next 24 hours whether Southampton’s Ross Wilson is heading to Ibrox – but the Premier League club believe he will stay.
Whilst much of the focus has been placed on Rangers’ search for a new manager following Mark Warburton’s exit, but recruitment chief Frank McParland also left the club, meaning the Gers also want to bring in a Director of Football.
A host of names have been linked with the post in recent weeks, but Southampton’s Ross Wilson has emerged as the club’s top target.
Formerly of Falkirk, the Scot has recently held posts with Huddersfield Town and Watford, and has been working as Southampton’s Director of Scouting since 2015.
Wilson has built up a real reputation for himself in recent years, and many believe that Rangers would be landing a major coup by luring him away from the Premier League – but that may not happen after all.
The Daily Mail report that whilst Rangers expect to hear an answer in the next 24 hours – and are hoping for positive news – Southampton now believe that Wilson will choose to stay at St. Mary’s Stadium.

It remains to be seen whether that is the case, but Saints executive director Les Reed allegedly returned from holiday in order to hold crunch talks with Wilson and attempt to convince him to stay.
The report adds that Huddersfield’s Stuart Webber has snubbed the chance to interview for the Director of Football job at Rangers, but Tottenham’s Paul Mitchell – currently serving a notice period having resigned last summer – has interviewed for the job, and he could become the frontrunner for the job should Wilson choose to stay with Southampton.
Mitchell – formerly of Southampton himself – has been attempting to leave Tottenham for some time now, and he may hope that Spurs allow him to leave the club for Rangers, though Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino told the London Evening Standard in December that a replacement would be needed before Mitchell can leave.
