Southampton are reportedly keen on Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers.
According to The Scottish Sun, Southampton have eyed up Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers as a potential replacement for sacked manager Mauricio Pellegrino.
The Saints only moved to land former Alaves boss Pellegrino as Claude Puel’s replacement last summer, but the Argentinian hasn’t managed to see out the season.
With Southampton hovering above the relegation zone after one win in the last 17 Premier League games, Pellegrino has lost his job, with Saturday’s 3-0 defeat at Newcastle United proving to be his final game in charge.
Now, it’s claimed that Southampton are turning their attention to Celtic boss Rodgers, and may hope to lure him back to the Premier League after nearly two years in Scotland.
Enough to tempt him back to England?
Rodgers may have left English football under something of a cloud having been sacked by Liverpool in October 2015, but he has more than rebuilt his reputation since replacing Ronny Deila as Celtic boss in 2016.
The Northern Irishman led Celtic to an unbeaten domestic treble last season, and is on course for another treble this term, which he has also guided the club back into the group stages of the Champions League in his two seasons with the club.
Many have expected Rodgers to make a return to England in the near future, with Arsenal touted as one potential destination, and it remains to be seen whether Southampton could seriously lure him.
The Saints are mired in a relegation battle right now, and it seems almost impossible that Rodgers would give up clinching another treble for a survival scrap, meaning Southampton may need other targets in mind.
