The Swansea City man has been heavily linked with a move to West Ham United, but Southampton are reportedly ready to gatecrash the party.

The Daily Mail reported yesterday that West Ham are prepared to meet the Welsh side’s £25 million asking price for the 23-year-old, with David Moyes keen on bolstering his back-line.
Southampton are heavily armed with cash, however, following Virgil van Dijk’s impending £75 million move to Liverpool, and would easily be able to meet Mawson’s valuation.

Football.London report that Mauricio Pellegrino is keen on bringing the Swansea man to St Mary’s, to help fill the void left behind by the towering Dutchman, and is prepared to offer the £25 million needed to prise him away from the Liberty Stadium.
This will be great news for Swansea.

With two clubs so desperate to sign the young centre-back, a bidding war could ensue, an the Welsh club could end up bringing in more money than they had first imagined.
Both West Ham and Southampton really could do with someone of Mawson’s ilk, and with the opening of the January transfer window just four days away, this will be one to keep a close eye on for both Hammers and Saints fans.
