An injury to Jeremy Pied has left the Saints needing to reassess their options.

According to the Southern Daily Echo, Southampton have stalled Cuco Martina’s move to Everton after an injury to summer signing Jeremy Pied.

The defender had been linked with a move to Goodison Park this summer, with the Liverpool Echo reporting that a deal was close.

After securing Pied this summer the Saints were happy to see Martina leave and make a quick profit on a player they signed for just £1 million last season.

Pied was expected to provide stern competition for first choice Cedric Soares this season, however, the Southern Daily Echo now reports that Martina’s exit has been put on hold after the Frenchman picked up an injury in training.

According to the report, the right back has injured his knee and while the Saints are waiting on the results of scans, they fear it may be a long-term injury.

If that proves to be the case they will need to reassess their options before allowing Martina to reunite with Ronald Koeman at Goodison Park.

Of course there is every chance they will take the money and look to make another signing, although it is more likely they will keep the player as back up for the time being.
