Southampton are reportedly keen on Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe.
According to The Mirror, Southampton want Bournemouth’s Eddie Howe as their manager if current boss Ronald Koeman leaves the club.
Koeman, 53, has impressed in almost two years as Southampton manager, and is on course to land a seventh-placed finish for the second season in a row.
The Saints boss has coped with multiple players leaving the club during his time as manager, and the ex-Feyenoord man has deservedly earned respect for his management on the South Coast.
Now though, there are some questions about the Dutchman’s future, with The Mirror reporting that he has yet to sign a new contract at St. Mary’s Stadium, and with just one year left on his deal, both Everton and Arsenal are casting admiring glances in his direction.
The report also claims that Southampton already have their top target in mind, should Koeman leave the club this summer – and, intriguingly, it’s Bournemouth’s Eddie Howe.
Howe, 38, has enjoyed an excellent campaign, keeping Bournemouth in the Premier League with games to spare, and sticking to his philosophical principles in the process.
It’s suggested that Southampton wanted Howe back in 2010, and the Saints have retained their interest to the point where they could move for him if Koeman goes.
Howe struggled up north with Burnley, but staying on the South Coast – even if it’s joining rivals Southampton – could be appealing, though much of course will depend on Koeman’s situation, which looks far from settled right now.
