Premier League outfit Southampton have enquired about the availability of Roma’s former Paris Saint-Germain prospect Ruben Providence, according to Fussball Transfers.

At the age of 20, this exciting young attacker has already donned the colours of two bona fide European giants.

Not that he has featured all too often at the Stadio Olimpico or the Parc des Princes. Since swapping the French capital for the Italian one in 2019, Providence has played solely for Roma’s second team.

When you consider that Jose Mourinho is not exactly famed for giving youth a chance, it seems unlikely that the France U19 international will have Henrikh Mkhitaryan and co looking over his shoulder once 2021/22 gets underway.

Will Ruben Providence leave Roma for Southampton?

According to Fussball Transfers, Providence could be on the move again as he looks to make his mark in the senior game.

Southampton have made an enquiry, although they face competition from a Stuttgart side willing to pay £2.5 million for a skillful, direct wide player who contributed five goals and nine assists in 38 matches for Roma’s reserves.

Stuttgart were a breath of fresh air in the Bundesliga last season; a youthful and technically-gifted side securing a top-half finish with the likes of Borna Sosa, Sasa Kalajdzic and Silas Mvumpa earning themselves plenty of admirers along the way.

Southampton, meanwhile, also have a superb track record when it comes to turning promising youngsters into top-flight stars.

That is why fresh-faced Chelsea trio Tino Livramento, Dynel Simeu and Armando Broja all jumped at the chance to join the South Coast club and continue their development under Ralph Hasenhuttl, a coach who played a major role in the developments of Timo Werner, Naby Keita and co at RB Leipzig.

And Providence should suit Hasenhuttl’s high-octane counter-attacking game plan down to the ground.
