Southampton are reportedly planning to land Laurent Jans in January.
According to The Mirror, Southampton’s £1m move for Waasland-Beveren defender Laurent Jans is set to free up Cuco Martina for a move to Everton.
The January transfer window is fast approaching, and whilst Southampton are never the biggest of spenders, they are being linked with a move for an international defender.
Laurent Jans in action for Luxembourg
Waasland-Beveren right back Laurent Jans has been a regular for the Belgian side since joining from Fola Esch in his native Luxembourg back in 2015, and his performances appear to have attracted interest.
The Mirror report that Southampton are planning a January deal to sign Jans, with a £1m fee being talked about for the Luxembourg international.

The 24-year-old is also believed to be attracting interest from Aston Villa and Huddersfield as well, but Southampton appear confident that they can bring Jans to the South Coast, giving manager Claude Puel more competition at right back.
Portugal international Cedric Soares has impressed, but summer signing Jeremy Pied suffered a season-ending knee injury back in August, leaving Cuco Martina to fill in at right back.

Intriguingly, The Mirror’s report on Jans claims that, if he does indeed sign for Southampton, then the path will be clear for Martina to reunite with former Saints boss Ronald Koeman at Everton.
It’s suggested that Pied’s injury stopped Martina from joining Everton before August’s deadline, but landing more cover at right back in Jans would finally allow 27-year-old full back Martina to join Everton and serve as a backup to Seamus Coleman.
