Southampton are set to complete the signing of Real Valladolid defender Mohammed Salisu with a four-year, £35,000-a-week contract on the table at St Mary’s, as reported by AS.
As recently as yesterday, Le10 Sport suggested that the 20-year-old La Liga starlet was set to miss out on his dream move to the Premier League, with a potential move to St Mary’s strangled by an endless supply of red tape.
But it seems that such bureaucracy will not stand in Salisu’s way after all.
According to new claims made by AS, Southampton have made great progress with obtaining the required work permit for a Non-EU player.
As a result, there will soon be nothing standing in Salisu’s way of becoming Ralph Hasenhuttl’s first signing of the summer.
What’s more, the Ghanaian is set to sign a contract with the Saints until 2024 and should get a substantial pay rise too. It is suggested that he will earn £35,000-a-week on the South Coast.

A intelligent and commanding centre-half, Salisu will add pace and strength to Southampton’s back line while potentially forming a fearsome partnership alongside the strangely underrated Jack Stephens.
Rennes had hoped to lure him to France but the Premier League was always the top priority, given that Salisu is fluent in English.
He has a £10 million release clause in his contract, although it remains to be seen whether Southampton can agree a lower fee.
