The defender looks to be on his way out of Arsenal this summer and there’s a chance he could end up at Watford or Southampton.
West Bromwich Albion had been fancied to sign the England international, but manager Tony Pulis ruled his side out of the running over the weekend.
Arsenal’s Kieran Gibbs
It is claimed that could spark Watford into action, although the Hornets are said to fear that Gibbs will remain over-priced by Arsenal.
The 27-year-old has been priced as high as £12 million, according to The Daily Mail, despite being out of contract next summer.
But that is unlikely to deter Southampton – if they end up selling Ryan Bertrand, who has been linked with moves to Chelsea and Manchester City.
That is not a scenario the Saints are likely to favour, however, while City’s capture of Benjamin Mendy on Monday decreases Bertrand’s chances of leaving St Mary’s.
Southampton’s Ryan Bertrand
Gibbs has spent the past 13 years at Arsenal – where he is a colleague of ex-Southampton players Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Calum Chambers – and played 229 times for the Gunners.
Should Watford land Gibbs, he would be the fourth England or England Under-21 international to arrive at Vicarage Road this summer.
Would Gibbs be a suitable replacement for Bertrand if the latter was to leave Southampton?
