Southampton have reportedly approached Hull City manager

According to The Independent, Southampton are expected to sack manager Claude Puel – and have already approached Hull City manager Marco Silva about taking over.

The Saints appointed Puel as a replacement for Ronald Koeman last summer following the Dutchman’s move to Everton, with Puel’s record with Nice attracting Southampton’s interest.

Whilst he had to cope with losing Victor Wanyama and Sadio Mane, Puel was able to bring in the likes of Sofiane Boufal and Nathan Redmond, whilst Manolo Gabbiadini also arrived after Jose Fonte was sold to West Ham in January.

Puel may have guided Southampton to the EFL Cup final, but performances this season have been frustrating, with a lack of goals from his Saints side – and with just two points from the last five games, Puel could be on his way out

The Independent report that Southampton are set to sack Puel this summer, amid suggestions that he has fallen out with certain Saints players, with contact allegedly already made with Hull City’s Marco Silva.

Silva, 39, was the surprise choice to take the Hull job earlier this year, and whilst many suggested that the former Sporting Lisbon and Olympiakos manager didn’t have the Premier League experience to succeed, he has impressed so far.

Whilst the Tigers are still flirting with relegation, Silva has given Hull real hope of survival by turning them into a well-drilled unit with a much improved defence and a stronger home record.

If Hull do suffer relegation, then Silva will be able to walk away from the KCOM Stadium, and Southampton appear to be positioning themselves at the front of the queue for his services having allegedly made contact with the Portuguese boss.
