According to L’Equipe, Newcastle United have joined Leeds United in the race to sign Brest defender Romain Perraud – but it’s Southampton most likely to strike a deal in the coming days.
It’s claimed that Perraud will leave Brest in order to move to England this summer, but the club is unknown at this point.
Southampton are believed to be closest to signing Perraud, as they have strong relations with Brest having signed Ibrahima Diallo from them last summer.
The Saints are losing Ryan Bertrand this summer, and are now seeking to strike a deal for Perraud imminently, which would cost in the region of €10million (£8.6million).
Leeds United have been long-term admirers of Perraud and allegedly still want him, given that Ezgjan Alioski is set to leave this summer – and he seems ideal for the Whites and their intense play having branded himself ‘hyperactive’.
Right now though, it looks like Marcelo Bielsa and co will miss out to Southampton, who are accelerating their move amid interest from Leeds and Newcastle.

Perraud, 23, left Nice for Brest in 2019, and has been in great form this season with three goals and seven assists from left back.
The French talent looks to have a great future ahead of him, and the coming days should decide where he plays his football next season.
