According to Eurosport, Southampton are leading the race for Brandon Williams of Manchester United, who is also on the radar of Sheffield United.

It has been reported that the Blades have made enquires about signing United duo Williams and Jesse Lingard.

The report has added that full-back Williams will be available for a loan move, and that Southampton are in the driving seat.

Chris Wilder’s side made initial contact regarding Lingard at the end of December and are waiting for a response, according to the report.

Southampton or Sheffield United?

Southampton are doing well in the Premier League at the moment and appear to be in the race for the Champions League places.

The Blades are having a torrid time and are at the foot of the league table with just two points from 17 matches.

However, with Ryan Bertrand and Kyle Walker-Peters doing well at the Saints, full-back Williams may not find it too appealing to move to St. Mary’s Stadium and struggle for playing time.

The 20-year-old is highly rated, with United legend Paul Scholes describing him as “an excellent defender” who can “also get forward” on BT Sport (7:30pm, January 15, 2020).
