Southampton are reportedly keeping an eye on Marco Silva’s situation as Mauricio Pellegrino continues to struggle.

According to a report from The Sun, Southampton are maintaining an interest in Marco Silva after the Portuguese’s departure from Watford as the pressure continues to grow on Mauricio Pellegrino.

Pellegrino continues to struggle to win the St Mary’s supporters round after a difficult first few months in charge of the Saints. It appears that their run of consecutive top-half finishes in the Premier League table may come to an end at the fifth attempt this term.

In fact, it currently appears that Southampton are facing a battle just to stay in the top flight. Following their 1-1 draw with Tottenham on Sunday, the Saints remain in the bottom three, one point off safety and two points off the bottom.

The Sun’s report does not suggest that Pellegrino’s departure is imminent or even inevitable, but they do believe that Silva still has his admirers amongst some of the movers and shakers at the club and his departure from Vicarage Road has given them plenty to ponder.

The Sun adds that the Saints considered moving for Silva in the summer following Claude Puel’s exit, and they may now be tempted to try and make another bid for him if they decide to part company with Pellegrino.

Southampton’s next game comes against Silva’s old side Watford in the fourth round of the FA Cup this weekend, while they return to Premier League action on deadline day when they host Brighton – who are one of the teams just outside the bottom three by one point.
