Southampton are amongst the host of sides who are reportedly interested in signing Anthony Limbombe.
Mark Hughes’ men appear to be in serious trouble of falling into the Championship this term. With four games remaining, the Saints are four points adrift of safety and they boast just one league win since the end of November, and that came against bottom side West Brom.
With the likes of Bournemouth, Everton and Swansea ahead in their next three games, it is entirely possible that they could go into the final day of the campaign where they face Manchester City in a fantastic position to preserve their top flight status. And it appears that the club are already making plans for if they manage to beat the drop.
Limbombe has enjoyed a brilliant season with Club Brugge, scoring six goals and providing six assists in the league. He also made a couple of appearances in the Europa League play-off round which saw the Belgian side beaten by AEK Athens, and made his debut for the national team earlier this year, which is no mean feat given the quality in Roberto Martinez’s squad.
HLN reports however, that the Saints’ chances of signing the exciting attacker are slim given their current position in the table and the fact that Limbombe currently has his heart set on heading to the Bundesliga.
But if Southampton can find the kind of form that turns their campaign around and sees them bag 17th or higher, perhaps it would not be the greatest shock if they decide to try and test Limbombe’s desire to head to Germany if they are keen on bringing him to St Mary’s.
