Aaron Mooy is being chased by Southampton
A report in The Sun has suggested that Southampton have become the latest club to register an interest in Manchester City midfielder Aaron Mooy, but face some competition from two of their newest Premier League rivals.
Mooy was fantastic at the heart of the Huddersfield Town midfield this past season, guiding the Terriers up to the top flight as they won the play-off final in a dramatic penalty shootout over Reading.
Huddersfield, Brighton and Southampton all want Mooy
The 26-year-old – who was on loan at the John Smith’s Stadium this past campaign – scored four times and contributed seven assists in the league, and scored his penalty in the shootout.
Understandably therefore, Huddersfield are keen to bring him back this summer on a permanent basis, though The Sun suggests that they may have to pay £10 million for the Australian.
Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk is being targeted by Mooy’s current club Manchester City
But they are also not the only team keen, with The Sun adding that fellow promotion-clinchers Brighton are interested, and now Southampton are considering a deal.
The Saints already have a lot of depth in the middle of the park, but perhaps his creativity appeals to the club’s hierarchy after a league season where Claude Puel’s men scored just 41 goals in 38 games.

The Sun adds that with City interested in Saints defender Virgil van Dijk, a potential swap deal could potentially be on the radar.
But if talks over a swap were to take place, Southampton would surely still want an eye-watering fee as well as Mooy heading in their direction, given that – while he has done well in the second tier – he is yet to feature in the Premier League.
