Southampton are reportedly interested in Huddersfield Town boss David Wagner.

According to The Sun, Southampton are keen on Huddersfield Town manager David Wagner despite appointing Mark Hughes as their new boss earlier this month.

The Saints find themselves in the Premier League relegation zone and in real danger of dropping into the Championship, hence their decision to sack manager Mauricio Pellegrino last month.

Southampton moved quickly to land his replacement, as ex-Stoke City boss Mark Hughes – a former Saints striker – returned to the club until the end of the season in a bid to keep the club in the top flight.

However, Southampton could look to switch manager again this summer, and The Sun claim that Huddersfield Town boss David Wagner is a top target for the Saints.

Wagner, 46, was seen as a gamble of an appointment for Huddersfield in 2015, but took the club to the Premier League for the first time in their history last year.

The Terriers have fared well in the top flight, sitting three points outside the relegation zone and in with a real chance of a second season in the top flight.

The German has earned huge plaudits for his brand of football and the way he has transformed Huddersfield’s entire culture, and Southampton are seemingly impressed.

It’s claimed that Wagner is expecting to leave Huddersfield this summer whether they stay up or not, and whilst Hughes will have time to prove himself, Southampton may look to get to the front of the queue for Wagner’s services.
