Tottenham Hotspur’s Erik Lamela has been linked with Southampton on January deadline day.

It has been reported that Southampton could face competition from Italian club AS Roma for the services of Lamela, who earns £60,000 per week as salary at Tottenham, according to The Mirror.
The report has also stated that if Spurs do let the Argentina leave, then it would only likely be a loan deal.

Lamela, who can operate as an attacking midfielder or as a winger, has only just returned from a long-term injury.
The 25-year-old is a hugely talented and promising attacking player, and he would be a great signing for Southampton.

The Saints could do with Lamela’s tricks and pace in their quest to avoid relegation to the Championship at the end of the season.
Although Lamela is facing competition for a place in the Spurs’ starting lineup at the moment, it would be a step down for him to leave the North London outfit and join a Southampton who could easily find themselves playing Championship football next season.
