The Southampton striker is reportedly nearing an exit from the club.

According to a report from Sky Sports, Southampton are in talks to sell Manolo Gabbiadini, and Saints manager Ralph Hasenhüttl admitted that it is entirely down to the player himself whether he stays at St Mary’s, or leaves.

The 27-year-old joined Southampton from Napoli in January 2017, for a fee believed to be worth £14.6 million, and he has gone on to score just 12 goals in all competitions for the south coast club.

The Italian has really struggled to adapt to the Premier League, so a move away from the Saints might be just what the needs.

Hasenhüttl admitted that the decision is purely down to Gabbiadini himself, as quoted by Sky Sports:

“Well we have to decide but more importantly he has to decide where he wants to go. There are many teams interested in Manolo let’s see”.

Quite how much Southampton will receive for the striker, if he does end up leaving, remains to be seen, but they will do well to recoup anywhere near the £14.6 million they laid out for his services two years ago, considering how much he has struggled over the last 12 months in particular.

And if Gabbiadini does leave, as is expected, Hasenhüttl will be keen to bring in another striker to replace the Italian.

The Austrian would be wise to make sure that whoever he brings in has plenty of Premier League experience, however, unlike Gabbiadini when he arrived in England.
