Championship clubs such as Aston Villa and Stoke City were linked with The Saints’ Premier League benchwarmer Austin.
Charlie Austin looks set to stay at Southampton for the rest of the season after the Premier League outfit rejected a £7 million bid for his services, according to Sky Sports.
It had been claimed that Saints manager Ralph Hasenhuttl had given the 29-year-old the green light to find a new club during the January transfer window, Austin having struggled for game time since the former RB Leipzig boss replaced Mark Hughes at St Mary’s.
But it seems that no club has met Southampton’s demands.
Sky (live blog, 1.04pm) reported that they turned down loan offers from four Premier League clubs as they were only willing to sell the former QPR and Burnley hit man.
And Sky add (2.47pm) that Southampton also rejected a £7 million bid from an as-yet unnamed Championship club. They seemingly value Austin, who has scored just twice in 16 Premier League games this season, at far more.
The Mail report that Stoke City wanted to offer Austin a fresh start this month while Aston Villa were also rumoured to be interested, according to The Telegraph.
