Forster has plummeted down the pecking order at Southampton.

The Sun have claimed that Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster is set to quit Mark Hughes’ side this summer with Turkish SuperLig giants Besiktas and Fenerbahce interested in the England international.

The 30-year-old goalkeeper has plummeted down the pecking order, after the club landed Angus Gunn from Manchester City after the England youth international starred on loan at Norwich City last term.

The 6ft 7in colossus managed only 20 Premier League appearances last term, before being eventually dropped by The Saints – failing to feature in 2018 in the top tier of English football.

It saw former Reading and QPR goalkeeper Alex McCarthy impress between the sticks – especially under Hughes – who eventually guided the Saints to safety late on.

Now, he is likely to leave in a bid to get his career back on track, with both Turkish sides making enquiries for the goalkeeper. English clubs are allowed to buy players up until the ninth, but are okay to sell up until other countries’ deadlines.

Forster still has four years remaining on his contract at St. Mary’s Stadium, but with Hughes now considering the former Celtic and Newcastle goalkeeper as third choice, Southampton are willing to sell.
