Southampton are running out of patience in their attempts to sign Brandon Williams on loan from Manchester United during the January transfer window, as reported by talkSPORT.

With a fixture schedule more congested than London traffic at rush hour, you can understand why the Premier League leaders may be having second thoughts about letting their versatile academy graduate go.

Williams offers valuable cover at right-back and left-back.

With United looking to maintain their place at the top of the table while battling for the FA Cup and Europa League, the tough-tackling 20-year-old could have a big part to play over the next few months.

Southampton have been in discussions about taking Williams on loan for a while now but, with just two weeks of the window left, it seems they are no closer to getting a deal done.

According to talkSPORT, the Saints are growing frustrated as developments slow to a snail’s pace.

The Telegraph backs up these claims, reporting that Ralph Hasenhuttl’s high-flying side have started to look at alternative options.

Of course, Williams would only benefit from a short-term spell working under a coach renowned in Britain and Germany for setting talented youngsters on the pathway to stardom.

The aggressive, all-action England U21 international is also exactly the kind of full-back Hasenhuttl likes; a sturdy one-v-one defender and a powerful runner capable of sparking rapid counter-attacks.

But with glory in their sights, Manchester United’s squad will be stretched to its limits between now and May.
