Scott Arfield has shone in the Scottish Premiership with Rangers but is he on his way back to the Premier League with Southampton?
Southampton are interested in bringing Scott Arfield back to the Premier League this summer, according to the Daily Mail.
The 30-year-old midfielder spent three seasons in England’s top flight with Burnley before joining Rangers last summer on a free transfer. And he has enjoyed a new lease of life north of the border, scoring the first hat-trick of his career in Sunday’s thrashing of Motherwell as he took his tally to 11 goals in all competitions.
But Rangers now appear to be in danger of losing Arfield, who has another eight assists to his name, with Southampton keen to bring the Canada international to St Mary’s.
The Saints are hovering just above the relegation zone right now and Arfield hardly seems like the archetypal Ralf Hasenhuttl signing. The former RB Leipzig boss favours working with young players with plenty of potential.
Southampton have history when it comes to signing midfielders from the Scottish Premiership, however, landing Stuart Armstrong from Celtic last summer.
The Mail adds that Rangers would demand about £3 million for Arfield, which would represent a sizeable profit on a player who arrived at Ibrox for absolutely nothing.
